One single thread weaves the story of the past and the present lives of two people. Two people born on the opposite sides of the world, yet destined to meet, realize karmic conditions and their consequences. On the surface, it is a typical boy-meets-girl theme, but only on the surface. As in real life, there is much more under the surface.
This film explores the Buddhist concept of karma and the possibility of rebirth of two persons in another lifetime to accomplish what was left unrealized in a previous life. Charlie, a photographer from Hollywood and his friend and textile expert Bob are in Bhutan doing research. Their vehicle breaks down near a small village in Lhuntse. Charlie goes to heads to the village to take photographs of the women sitting weaving. One girl in particular, Chomiko, catches his eye. Chokimo tells the story of past to Charlie introducing Meto Lhazey and Phuntsho. They are lovers in the past generation.
During the days the foreigners are delayed the attraction to Chomiko grows and a previous romance is rekindled. The relationship between the two becomes entangled and then untangled through realization of the causes and conditions that created it. In the end, balance is restored and both Charlie and Chomiko are wiser.
